Abstract

Ficus bengalensis also known as Indian banyan tree. Different parts of the tree have been found to possess medicinal properties; leaves are good for ulcers, aerial roots are useful in gonorrhea, seeds and fruits are cooling and tonic The roots of ficus bengalensis are given for obstinate vomiting and infusion of its bark is consider as a tonic and astringent and is also used in diarrhea, dysentery and diabetes. The bark of the plant is used in Ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of diabetes.
